The San Mames VIP Area aspires to become a benchmark in the world of sport through a project that combines football, passion, fans, and culinary excellence, as a true reflection of what Athletic Club and Bizkaia represent.
Athletic Club wants to make the GUNE GASTRONOMIKOA of BIZKAIA -the haven of fine dining- in the San Mames VIP area- a place of culinary excellence. It seeks to attract and recognise chefs, organisations, institutions, producers and colleges that have managed to spread the word about Bizkaia’s cuisine throughout the world, thereby turning fine dining into a driver of the local tourist sector.
The Team
This project is spearheaded by the Athletic Club ‘gourmet eleven’: the Michelin-starred chefs Daniel García, Eneko Atxa, Fernando Canales, Josean Alija, Julen Baz, Jerónimo Peña and Vitalie Nofit, an outstanding local line-up that aims to turn San Mamés into a Cathedral of Fine Dining.
The service at the San Mames VIP area on matchdays is provided by renowned local restaurants with at least one Michelin star: Nerua Guggenheim Bilbao, Garena, Azurmendi (3*), Andra Mari, Eneko, Atelier Etxanobe, Zortziko and Boroa, the finest exponents of local cuisine.

The local hospitality and catering college –Escuela Superior de Hostelería Bilbao– is also part of Bizkaia’s GUNE GASTRONOMIKOA. It is another of the local exponents of fine dining, and one that instructs the professionals of the future.
On matchdays, the governing board for the local txakoli wine –Consejo Regulador de la DO Bizkaiko Txakolina– also takes part in Bizkaia’s GUNE GASTRONOMIKOA. One of the bodegas, or wineries, belonging to this Denomination of Origin provides guests in this area with a chance to taste its txakolis. In fact, Bizkaiko Txakolina and Athletic Club share values that make them referents in Bizkaia: loyalty to their roots, respect for their history and origins, and dedicated work well done from their grassroots through to the project’s culmination.
A very special project in which Athletic Club seeks to make its ow contribution to the recognition of the local cuisine from such a different world as football.
At the same time, it wants San Mamés to become a sporting venue with an international reputation as a haven of fine dining.
