San Mames hosts a conference on MICE tourism for fairs and congresses

San Mames has once again hosted an important event, the “Let’s MICE” conference, organized by the Department of Tourism, Commerce and Consumption of the Basque Government and Basquetour, which was aimed at MICE tourism professionals for fairs and congresses.

MICE tourism (Meetings, Incentives, Congresses and Events) has a significant weight in the Basque Country, where the tourism sector is in a remarkable process of reactivation.

The Basque Government’s Minister of Tourism, Trade and Consumer Affairs, Javier Hurtado, explained during this conference that MICE tourism is important not only for attracting professionals and the positive image it projects of the Basque Country, but also for its ability to deseasonalise throughout the year and during the week, as congresses and trade fairs are not usually held during the summer months.

He also highlighted the importance of MICE tourism in the destination positioning, as it is a driving force for business opportunities and contributes to improving the image of the Basque Country thanks to the opportunities it offers, together with its capacity to adapt and become leisure tourism.
