This Saturday, 16th December, San Mames stadium will host the match between Atlético de Madrid and Athletic Club (16:15). A clash between two teams placed at the top of the table. This game will culminate the events for the 125th anniversary of “Los Leones”. Here are some of the events taking place in Bilbao during this weekend (15th – 17th December).
Athletic Club 125 eguna
This weekend, Bilbao will enjoy a large number of events. One of them will be the clash between Atlético de Madrid and Athletic Club, which will put an end to the events for the 125th anniversary of the red and white striped club.
The ‘Athletic Club 125 eguna’ will begin with the inauguration of the Iribar statue, a gift that both council and club promised to the mighty goalkeeper for his 80th birthday. It will take place at 12:30, by the San Mames stadium, at the point of the esplanade that meets Licenciado Poza street and is adjacent to Luis Briñas street.
Another highlight of the day will take place in the run-up to the Athletic Club–Atlético de Madrid kick-off. The last ambassador of the year, a member chosen at random last Thursday, November 30, and representing the entire social mass, will receive the 125th anniversary insignia in the central circle from the hands of the first ambassador of this anniversary, Jon Rahm.
It will be precisely Jon Rahm who, after handing the insignia to December’s member ambassador, will take the honorary kick-off of the match against Atlético de Madrid.
At the end of the LaLiga match, the agreed-upon clubs, Lezama teams and former female and male Athletic Club players will take the baton, becoming the main actors in a parade in which, starting from different corners, they will cross each other diagonally in the centre of the field. The past and future of Athletic Club will be applauded, in this way, in ‘La Catedral’
Another big event of the program will be the Legends’ match which will feature a combination of Athletic Club 125 against the FC Porto Vintage of One Club Man 2023 Joao Pinto. A game that will pay tribute to that first ever official game held against each other in European competition, which happened in the round of 16 of the 1956 European Cup.

Theatre
Regarding the performing arts, the Arriaga Theatre will host both Friday and Saturday the performance of the play La Vida es Sueño.
In addition, the Campos Theatre will hold Francisco’s live performance with his 40 años ‘Latino’ tour (Friday 15th), and the monologues of Adri Romeo (Friday 15th) and Javier Alba del Alba (Saturday 16th).
