Pint of Science brings Science to Geuria! on 22nd, 23rd and 24th of May

Pint of Science, the popular science festival returns to Bilbao on 22nd, 23rd and 24th May. This event, which brings the great themes of Science to the public of all ages through talks in bars, will be held this year in Geuria! the sports bar of San Mames.

Pint of Science in Geuria!

Bilbao is one of almost 60 cities in Spain that will host this event, which was born in 2012 in the United Kingdom and now stretches around the globe, as it is held in 26 countries in Europe, America, Asia and Oceania.

Pint of Science Bilbao will be held simultaneously in four Bilbao establishments (Hika Ateneo, Kubrick Bar, Crazy Horse and Geuria!), each dedicated to a specific thematic category. All the talks will start at 19:00, with free admission.

In the case of Geuria!, the theme From atoms to galaxies will be addressed through talks as varied as those dedicated to the secrets of subatomic particles, what quantum physics is and how it is in almost everything that surrounds our daily lives, and the revealing chemical analysis of meteorites from Mars, among other topics.

Thus, on Monday 22nd May, the talks: Illuminating the science of materials with neutrons, and: What do neutrinos taste like? will be given by José María Porro and Xabier Marcano. A day later will be the turn of Gonzalo Muga, Mikel Sanz and Gorka Garay, who will be giving talks on Quantum physics in everyday life and Sintesi Organikoa: Molekula Organikoen Arkitektura.

Finally, on Wednesday 24th May, Geuria! will host the talks Predictive models in chemoinformatics, with Harbil Bediaga, and Characterisation of meteorites from Mars, with Iratxe Población.

A pleasant and accessible point of view

Pint of Science Bilbao will deal with some of the most topical scientific issues, but always from an entertaining and accessible point of view for the public of any age. Leading scientists from some of the most important academic and research centres in our territory will take part: UPV/EHU, University of Deusto, Biocruces, Azti, Biofisika Institute, Achucarro Basque Center for Neuroscience, BC3 – Basque Center for Climate Change, BCAM – Basque Center for Applied Mathematics, BCMaterials… and even Basque researchers at centres such as the Autonomous University of Madrid.
