The San Mam\u00e9s stadium is the first European construction to have obtained LEED certification.<\/p> Therefore, we can say that San Mam\u00e9s is a sustainable stadium. The San Mam\u00e9s stadium can be considered many things. From the perfect building in Bilbao for events<\/strong><\/a> and conferences in Bilbao, to a venue for rock concerts<\/strong><\/a> or the venue for the European rugby finals<\/strong>. But we can also say that it is a sustainable Stadium.<\/p>\r\n

San Mam\u00e9s obtains sustainable stadium certification<\/h2>\r\n

The LEED sustainable building certificate<\/strong> is one of many that the San Mam\u00e9s stadium has obtained since its inauguration. \u201cThe LEED<\/strong> (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) programme is a US Green Building Council building certification<\/strong> system, devised in the United States in 1998, which encourages the construction and future development of sustainable buildings<\/strong>. Via Structuralia.\u201d Among the awards and recognition that the San Mam\u00e9s stadium has received are the award for the best sports building in the world<\/strong><\/a> and certification that accredits it as a pioneer in football safety<\/strong><\/a>. <\/strong>There is no doubt that San Mam\u00e9s is much more than a football stadium. The certification assesses the degree of sustainability of buildings based on:<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

  1. The categories of integration on the plot.<\/li>\r\n
  2. Savings of water and energy.<\/li>\r\n
  3. Use of materials with a low environmental impact.<\/li>\r\n
  4. Quality of the indoor environment.<\/li>\r\n
  5. Innovation and design.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>

    It is also the most important international certification in this area, according to the engineering firm IDOM<\/strong>, the company responsible for the design and construction of the stadium. But San Mam\u00e9s is not the only one. There are other sustainable stadiums<\/strong>, such as the following:<\/p>\r\n

    1. The Aviva Stadium in Dublin<\/strong>. On of the reasons why it is considered a sustainable stadium is that it collects rainwater and reuses it to irrigate the pitch.<\/li>\r\n
    2. Morro da Mineira in Rio de Janeiro. <\/strong>This sustainable stadium has more than 200 tiles with kinetic technology, which converts the movement of the players into energy to power the spotlights.<\/li>\r\n
    3. Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund. <\/strong>It has a system that turns solar power into electricity<\/li>\r\n
    4. The Amsterdam Arena in Amsterdam <\/strong>has Zen energy thanks to 4,200 solar panels on the roof and it also reuses rain water.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>
