The Lions have so far accumulated a total of 37 League and Cup trophies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nearly 650 players<\/strong> have been part of the red & white first team throughout its history. The five players with the most appearances<\/strong> in the Zurigorri shirt are Iribar, Muniain, Rojo I, De Marcos<\/strong> and Etxeberria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its more than 125 years of history<\/strong>, Athletic Club<\/strong> has played more than 4,100 official matches<\/strong>, and almost 6,000<\/strong> if you add friendly matches to all of these.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Zurigorri team has scored more than 7,300 official goals<\/strong>, which is more than 12,000<\/strong> if you also take into account those friendly matches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three biggest wins<\/strong> scored so far are a 12-0<\/strong> win over Sestao River (1923-24 season, Regional Championship), a 12-0<\/strong> win over Irun Sporting (1913-14 season, Regional Championship) and a 12-1<\/strong> win over FC Barcelona (1930-31, LaLiga).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The top scorer of the red & white team is Telmo Zarra<\/strong>, one of the best strikers of all time and an example of sportsmanship, who scored a total of 335 goals<\/strong> in the 16 seasons in which he played for Athletic Club.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Athletic Club’s first coach<\/strong> was Mr. Shepherd<\/strong>. The first to surpass one hundred games was the unforgettable Frederick Pentland<\/strong>, with 178. And the one with the most games, Ernesto Valverde<\/strong>, who is close to reaching 400 (397 at the end of the 2023-2024 season).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, Unai Sim\u00f3n<\/strong> won the Zamora Trophy<\/strong>. However, the first Lions goalkeeper to win this award was Goyo Blasco<\/strong> who, in fact, won it three times<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Blasco is, together with his teammates in the 1930s GuillermoGorostiza, Jos\u00e9LuisIspizua and RobertoEtxebarria, the Zurigorri player with the most titles to his credit, 15 (4 leagues, 4 cups and 7 regional championships). However, it is also the legendary Gainza<\/strong> who leads the ranking of titles<\/strong> thanks to having won 7 Cups, 2 Leagues and 1 Eva Duarte Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lions have 8 league championships<\/strong> to their name. The first of these was achieved in the 1929-30 season, where they did not lose a single match. The first of the 25 Cups<\/strong> was won more than a century ago, in the 1901-1902 season, when the red & white team beat FC Barcelona 2-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
