A FIFA delegation, accompanied by representatives of the Moroccan, Spanish and Portuguese World Cup host committee, visited San Mames as they start preparations for the 2030 edition of the global tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members of the international body are currently inspecting various stadiums aspiring to become World Cup venues.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The travelling party, which includes representatives from FIFA, the three countries’ national associations and different business groups created for this project, began their visits in Portugal on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jon Berasategi, Athletic Club’s managing director, was the main host for their guided tour of The Cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The new stadium, which recently successfully hosted the final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League<\/strong>, could thus pick up the baton from the old San Mam\u00e9s, which hosted 1982 World Cup group phase games between England, France, Czechoslovakia and Kuwait.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n The FIFA delegation was led by Nicholas Rozenberg, while Mar\u00eda Tato, Jorge Mowinckel and Fernando Sanz, members of the bid’s Executive Committee, attended on behalf of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), along with partners from the Moroccan and Portuguese associations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Other local representatives also took part in the tour, including: Juan Fernandez Carnicer from the National Sports Council, Biscay Football Federation president Jos\u00e9 Ignacio G\u00f3mez Maradones and Basque Football Federation secretary general Kepa Allica, along with delegates from the Bilbao City Council, the Provincial Government of Bizkaia and the Basque Government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A FIFA delegation, accompanied by representatives of the Moroccan, Spanish and Portuguese World Cup host committee, visited San Mames as they start preparations for the 2030 edition of the global tournament.
